Taylor Mag: The Legacy Behind the Vineyard and the Wine
The foundation of EFESTĒ Winery is a story of love and passion. High school sweethearts Kevin and Angela “Angie” Taylor, alongside Angela’s parents, Daniel “Big Papa” and Helen “Yiayia” Ferrelli, turned their shared interest in winemaking into a thriving family business. The Taylors, with their strong family values and deep roots in the community, play an integral role in what makes EFESTĒ unique.
History Behind the Name “Taylor Mag”
Their journey began in Washington, where Kevin’s family migrated from New York and Michigan, eventually settling near Lake Sammamish. Karen Taylor’s grandfather’s purchase of property on Lake Sammamish with a lot for each family member established a close-knit community that would support future generations.
Karen Magnussen, Kevin’s mother, grew up in Redmond, Washington, a small, quiet town with just a one-stop sign. Her father, Tor Magnussen, played a pivotal role in shaping the family’s legacy. Tor married his childhood sweetheart, Helen Quackenbush, and they raised their children on East Lake Sammamish. Tor Magnussen purchased Cadman Gravel in 1946, which led to a generational love of building and development. Helen lived a long and vibrant life, passing away at the age of 102. Their enduring partnership and dedication to family and community laid the groundwork for the values we cherish at EFESTĒ.
Karen Magnussen and Paul Taylor grew up in a small community and attended the same high school. After finishing high school, they both attended WSU. Paul’s love of sports got him to WSU on a baseball scholarship. After College, Karen and Paul were married and had 3 children. Paul’s career took a significant turn when he joined his father-in-law, Tor, at Cadman Gravel in 1968. Under Paul’s leadership, the company grew to become the largest sand and gravel supplier on the West Coast, cementing the family’s legacy in construction and development.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Kevin Taylor engaged deeply in the development and construction industries in Western Washington. After graduating from Washington State University (WSU), he expanded the family’s business ventures with Taylor Developments. His commitment to community development helped shape the region’s growth and infrastructure.
Founding EFESTĒ Winery
Kevin and Angela’s love story is intertwined with a shared passion for winemaking, and they are influenced by Angela’s father, Daniel “Big Papa” Ferrelli. Daniel’s basement winemaking hobby became a cherished family activity, which included family friends Karen and Paul Taylor in the hot summers spent crushing wine. This hobby sparked Kevin’s interest and love for winemaking. This passion, combined with support from both families, led to the founding of EFESTĒ. The name EFESTĒ honors their heritage, incorporating family initials: F for Ferrelli and T for Taylor. With a passion of creating world renowned Washington State Wine, made with quality and integity practicing winamking with minimal intervention.
